I recently came across The Girl Effect. Check out this video done by them below or see it on their website:
Now check out the facts. When young girls get proper nutrition and education societies change. Poverty decreases. Death by starvation and preventable diseases decreases. HIV/AIDS cases decrease. Educated girls begin having children at an older age and less overall. That means less mouths to feed in places struggling to feed the people who are already there. In countries where there have been concerted efforts to educate and care for young girls there has been drastic positive changes. Educated young girls and women are one of the greatest tools for positive social change we have.
Take this opportunity to make a change in the life of one young girl. Visit The Girl Effect to partner with them. Or visit World Vision where you can sponsor a young girl of your choice. At Compassion International you can do the same thing. Another way to help is to partner with micro-finance organizations, like Kiva, and help purchase the “one cow” mentioned in the video. There are so many options out there. If none of these fit your interests research other organizations. There are many out there. For instance, my wife and I sponsor a girl in Kenya through Made in the Streets. Each little girl can make a world of difference.
Often on this site we talk about theology and theory. Here is an opportunity for us to take practical steps toward witnessing to the Kingdom of God and to serve the least of these. Don’t hesitate. Do something.
